Long time, no write.

I know…as far as blog authors go…I am the absolute worst. I get completely distracted and wander off towards shiny things at the drop of a hat.

But good news: I’m back…ish.

I just wanted to write a quick post for now to let you all know I’ve enrolled at NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study to design a masters degree in Public Health/Anthropology leading towards Round 2 of Thesis-ville in Infectious Disease in Film and Lit.

I am hoping that this blog will be an integral part of my journey through graduate school in trying to arrange new and exciting thoughts that I can add to my pre-existing thesis. I am hoping that by the completion of the program and Thesis Parte Dos I will have doubled the length of my thesis and polished it into something that is publish-worthy. I haven’t the slightest clue what my ultimate goal with this degree is…so don’t ask.

But for now I am content to know I am studying what I love and am passionate about.

I am part-time for now…but stay tuned for interesting thoughts on my two classes:

Art and Catastrophe

Violence and Metaphor

Psst–It’s like NYU knew I was coming and designed the most amazing, perfect courses for me ever. What luck!

I am going to have to send out my feelers and wrangle back all of my readers so that this blog keeps its interesting dialogue. Let’s chat things up and get back to the important stuff here….or any stuff at all!!

So once again…sorry I was away for so long. I am glad to be back in the blogosphere and back to academia.

Unintentional Hiatus

Well, I’ve let time slip away.

I promise I’m still here, just very busy.

I have a post in the works, but it will have to wait until my day off (Tuesday). So hang in there.

That time of year…

Yes, that’s right. As I write this in the part of September that is edgeing into “late” we can already see the Halloween costumes lining the walls of shops, bags of candy corn piled high, stacks of pumpkins outside of the market.

I enjoy Halloween, I do. I see no reason in beginning festivities a month and a half early, but I digress.

When Halloween comes about, all the shops do SOMETHING. So this is when all of the book/video shops lay out in plain sight on a big table the material I usually have to go hunting for. This is why I got all giddy in Barnes and Noble yesterday when I ran across these two books:

The Pandemic Threat Conference

I read a post this morning over at the Avian Flu Diary announcing a conference taking place tomorrow from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm EST in Wisconsin on Preparing an Organizational Response to Pandemic. They are also broadcasting the conference over the internet, so I am lucky enough to get to watch.

You have to register, which you can do here.

I probably won’t watch the entire thing, because I just don’t have five hours of my life to spare on it. If I get into NYU Gallatin then perhaps I WILL have five hours to spend watching something like that. Ask me more on that later.

So look for an update tomorrow with news from the conference and thanks again to FLA_MEDIC at Avian Flu Diary for the information!

Also, Reed has added me as an author at his blog here. Homosecular Gaytheist covers a huge range of topics and I am thrilled to be added to the team! I will periodically post there and link it here, and vice versa.
